The "Boys"

Oh my goodnesss, the boys. Where to start with them? M is loud and you never doubt his presence. SB is quiet, usually calm and mostly obedient, as far as an almost two year old can be.  Today was pretty typical of any day. M suddenly decides he is done w/breakfast and begins throwing food. He enjoys eating, but at almost every meal he hits a point where he is done. No warning, just screaming or throwing food, sometimes both. I pull him out of the high chair and immediately go on the offensive to prevent him from destroying something. Here recently, it’s his head I’m most concerned about. He fell last week, hitting the back of his head on the edge of our concrete patio and has two staples. When he gets upset, he typically collapses to the floor. It’s my job to catch him before he hits. Two more days until the staples come out. So as I’m chasing M around, trying to find something for him to play with, I look around for SB. Poor guy is still in his high chair, patiently waiting for me to come get him out. That boy is gonna have to make more noise if he wants to be noticed in this house. Although, sometimes it seems that he doesn’t want to be noticed, he definitely has a sneaky side. Another example from just this morning, C is unloading the dishwasher with “help” from M and SB. SB is enjoying opening and closing the detergent door. He continues this after C is done and M go to find something else to destroy, I mean play with. I figure, what’s the harm in playing with an empty dishwasher so I let SB continue while I try to get school started for the big kids after they finish their morning chores. Then SB comes walking around the kitchen, pointing to his mouth and making sounds that sound kinda like, “Yuck.” I think, “What could he have done?” Well, he unscrewed the JetDry refill knob and put it in his mouth. Yep, he’s the quiet one, but he can still find trouble too. So after rinsing out his mouth, closing the dishwasher, and finding him something to play with, we finally get back to school. And that was all before 9 am! Never a dull moment around here :)
